Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (3/8/2025) -  Propelled by a 12-0 first quarter, the Gwynedd Mercy University Griffins (1-3) lost in lopsided fashion to the Desales University (3-0) Bulldogs this afternoon.  The Bulldogs came in strong with six unanswered goals in the first 5 minutes of play.  While they attempted to right the ship in the second quarter, limiting Desales to just four shots in the second quarter, the Griffins had difficulty transitioning the ball from their defensive zone through the midfield, with only 50% of clears successful. 

The Griffins came out of halftime more energized, with 75% of their total shots completed in the third quarter.  While Gwynedd Mercy had more success on the draw control (5 draws in the second half as compared to 6 for Desales), eight turnovers interrupted any potential offensive momentum.  The Griffins attempted to increase their pressure defensively but once again had difficulty clearing the ball from their own zone. 

Griffin Highlights: 

• Sophomore attacker Gianna Papa (Stratford, N.J.) netted the sole goal for the Griffins with 8:36 remining in the third quarter of play. 

• All three Gwynedd Mercy goalkeepers played in the contest, with Victoria Sloan (Philadelphia, Pa.) recording six saves. 

• The Bulldogs dominated time of possession throughout the game, resulting in shots taken 35-4. 

• The Griffins struggled when clearing the ball to their offensive zone, successfully clearing just 5 of 15 balls. 

The Griffins continue their home stand on Monday, March 10 for a 4:00 pm start against Kings College.
