Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (9/21/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (2-6) gave their all to hold the Red Hawks at bay in this afternoon's affair. Unfortunately, a 21-4 shot deficit and a bounty of penalty corner opportunities for Montclair State University (6-1) (16) precipitated the Griffins' demise in a 4-0 final. Freshman goalkeeper Kelly Weaver (Flemington, N.J.) was active with six saves in her first collegiate start.

Griffin Highlights

• Despite a series of early penalty corners, Gwynedd Mercy University managed to hold off Montclair State University for the first ten minutes of the contest.
• The Griffins' first shot came at 35:38 on a wide strike from senior midfielder Cheyenne Avellino (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.). She finished with a team-high two shots.
• Her second came later in the contest (50:36) and was followed fleeting strikes from sophomore defender Sofia Ferraro (Ambler, Pa.) (57:22) and senior midfielder Laura Filchner (Bath, Pa.) (59:23).
• In addition to Weaver's saves, the Red and Gold got a defensive save from sophomore defender Morgan Hoban (Cinnaminson, N.J.).

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to the Athletic Complex on Wednesday, September 24, when they host Moravian University for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
