Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (9/14/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (2-4) played host to Virginia Wesleyan University (3-1) for the first time in program history. The Griffins struggled offensively against the Marlins as the team only registered four shots in 60 minutes of play with two shots being on goal while Virginia Wesleyan recorded 18 shots and walked away with a 4-1 victory. Senior defenseman Laura Filchner (Bath, Pa.) was all over the field as she recorded two of the four shots and recorded the lone goal for the Griffins in the first quarter (13:03) coming off a penalty corner. Junior defenseman Abby LePage (Cinnaminson, N.J.) recorded her first career assist and collegiate point with her assist on Filchner's goal.  

Griffins Highlights: 

• Senior goalkeeper Morgan Lawless (Bristol, Pa.) started her sixth consecutive game in net for the red and gold and finished with a season-high seven saves in this loss (2-4).  
• The only other Griffin members to record a shot were senior midfielder Cheyenne Avellino (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) (1) and sophomore forward Leany Santana (Wilmington, Del.) (1). 
• Filchner also recorded the team's first defensive save at 52:21 keeping the score 4-1.  

Gwynedd Mercy University travels down 309 to take on Rival Arcadia University on Wednesday, September 18 for a 4:00 p.m. face off.
