Reading, Pa. - (3/20/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (0-7) traveled to Alvernia University (4-5) for today's contest. There, the Wolves outscored the Griffins 8-0 in the opening period and 10-5 the rest of the way in an eventual 18-5 final. Senior attack Kristin Varilla (Lansdale, Pa.) chimed in with three of the five Red and Gold goals; she deposited her first tally of the with 13:09 (1-9) remaining in the second quarter, her second on a free position with 5:26 (3-15) left to play in the third, and her third with 0:34 (5-18) standing on the fourth-quarter clock.

Griffin Highlights

• Gwynedd Mercy University won 10 draw controls, was successful on 8-of-13 (.615) clear attempts, and recovered five ground balls.
• In addition to Varilla's scores, junior midfielder Cheyenne Avellino (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) scored on the extra-player with 9:28 (2-14) remaining in the third quarter and sophomore midfielder Ayana Lyons (Norristown, Pa.) scored with 4:07 (4-18) remaining in the fourth quarter.
• In addition to her goals, Varilla secured three draw controls and assisted on Avellino's score to finish with four points; just enough to etch her in the Gwynedd Mercy University women's lacrosse programs Top-10 All-Time in points (10th, 164).
• Avellino totaled four draw controlsand a ground ball in excess of her score.
• In goal, freshmen Victoria Sloan (Philadelphia, Pa.) (0-7) (24:11) and Nikki Williams (Cinnaminson, N.J.) (35:49) both saw time. The former totaled four saves and a ground ball, while the latter recorded six saves and a ground ball.

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to the Athletic Complex on Saturday, March 23, when they host the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) for a 12:00 p.m. contest.
