Griffins Commemorate Seven Seniors and Host Mighty Macs

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (10/26/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (2-16-1,0-5 AEC) played host Atlantic East Conference (AEC) rival Immaculata University (6-8-1, 3-2 AEC) in the Griffins final Saturday matchup of the 2024 season. Just minutes into the game, the Mighty Macs took an early 2-0 lead (2:20, 6:44), but the Red and Gold did not go away quietly. 2023 leading goal scorer junior forward Braedon Kehan (Warrington, Pa.) netted two goals in the contest (8:44, 53:56) to even the score 2-2. In the end, Mighty Macs would score the final tally of the contest and walk away with a 3-2 victory.

Prior to the start of the contest, the Gwynedd Mercy recognized the senior class of 2024; midfielder Ed Mincarelli (East Norriton, Pa.), defenseman Matt Edwards (Bensalem, Pa.), midfielder Kasey Wallace (Audubon, N.J.), defenseman Michael McGlinn (Philadelphia, Pa.), defenseman Victor Cruz (New Castle, Del.), forward Shaine Kirby (Newtown, Pa.) and graduate midfielder Mike Fienman (Philadelphia, Pa.) for their contributions to the Gwynedd Mercy University men's soccer program.

Griffin Highlights:

  • Coming into the contest, Kehan had struggled all year to find the back of the net, but against Immaculata, Kehan's continued hard work all season finally paid off. At 8:44, Kehan kicked a beautiful ball past the Might Macs keeper to cut the lead to one (2-1). At 53:56, the Griffins were rewarded with a penalty kick, and once again, Kehan came through, knotting the score at two apiece.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Fionn Berton (Bordentown, N.J.) started in net for the Red and Gold and finished with seven saves in the loss (0-9-1).
  • Gwynedd Mercy was outshot 26-11 and took only six corner kicks compared to the Mighty Macs' 15.

Gwynedd Mercy returns to Atlantic East Conference play on Wednesday, October 30 when the Griffins play their final game of the 2024 regular season taking on Centenary University (New Jersey) for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff.
