Langhorne, Pa. - (10/11/2024) - For their final non-conference game of the 2024 season, Gwynedd Mercy University (2-12-1) traveled to Cairn University (7-2-4) looking to start their important Atlantic East Conference (AEC) stretch on a high note. The Highlanders controlled the ball for the majority of the contest, securing a 3-1 victory. The Red and Gold struggled to find any golden chances throughout the match but with just 18 seconds left in the contest (89:42) freshman defenseman Jack Barnett (Bensalem, Pa.) broke through the Highlanders' stout defense and netted his first goal of his collegiate career.
Griffin Highlights:
- Junior goalkeeper Joe Romano (Blue Bell, Pa.) started all 90 minutes in net for Gwynedd Mercy, as he faced nine shots stopping six of them in the loss (2-6).
- Sophomore midfielder and Griffins offensive leader this season Luke O'Donnell (Glenside, Pa.) continued to show his presence in the offensive zone as he finished with a team-high three shots in the contest.
- Gwynedd Mercy was outshot 25-6 as the Griffins only recorded one shot in the first 45 minutes of action.
Gwynedd Mercy returns to AEC action on Saturday, October 19 when the Griffins travel to the defending AEC champions, Neumann University for a 12:00 p.m. kickoff.
