Nine-Run Second Inning Powers Griffins to Senior Night Win Over Greyhounds

North Wales, Pa. - (5/2/2023) - Gwynedd Mercy University (18-16) used a nine-run second inning to power their way to a 15-11 Senior Night victory over Moravian University (10-24). Prior to the start of this evening's contest, Gwynedd Mercy University honored the Class of 2023: #7 first baseman/catcher Nick Price (Levittown, Pa.), #10 pitcher Pat Hasson (Philadelphia, Pa.), #24 Trey Livingstone (Pennsburg, Pa.), and #30 Noah Andress (Levittown, Pa.). Six Griffins recorded multiple hits, including three-hit performances from sophomore left fielder Cooper Root (Runnemede, N.J.) (3-for-5, BB, 3R, 3RBI), Andress (3-for-4, R, RBI), and graduate second baseman Rob Bailey (Abington, Pa.) (3-for-4, R, RBI).

Griffin Highlights
  • Gwynedd Mercy University evened out the first inning with a two-run single through the left side from freshman right fielder Sam Junker (Ambler, Pa.) (2-2). The inning began with a lead off walk to senior shortstop Jake Martell (Levittown, Pa.) and a single to left from Root.
  • The nine-run second included a bases-loaded walk to freshman center fielder Chris Nodeland (Hamilton, N.J.) (3-3), a run-scoring single to center from Martell (4-3), a Root double down the right field line (7-3), a bases-loaded walk to junior first baseman Frank Ebling (Cherry Hill, N.J.) (8-3), a beaming of Andress (9-3), a run-scoring single from Bailey (10-3), and a sacrifice fly on Nodeland's second at-bat (11-3) of the frame.
  • The Griffins netted a run in the fourth (12-3), fifth (13-5), sixth (14-5), and seventh innings (15-8), but surrendered two runs in the fifth, three runs in the seventh, two more in the eighth (15-10), and one more in the ninth (15-11) to keep the contest interesting.
  • With his 7th-inning solo shot Price recorded the 100th hit of his collegiate career. He finished the game 2-for-5 with a run and a run-batted-in (RBI).
  • Graduate pitcher/designated hitter Billy Collins (Hatfield, Pa.) earned the win (1-3); he allowed four earned runs on 10 hits, while striking out four strikeouts over five innings (5.0) of work.
Gwynedd Mercy University resumes their Atlantic East Conference (AEC) schedule on Friday, May 5, when they visit Cabrini University for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
