Arlington, Va. - (4/27/2023) - Gwynedd Mercy University (16-16, 4-8) concluded their Atlantic East Conference (AEC) season schedule with today's doubleheader at Marymount University (18-20, 8-4). The Saints slugged out a 15-0 game-one win in just five innings. The Griffins grabbed control of game two with a three-run fourth inning thanks to run-scoring singles from junior third baseman Grace Scally (Philadelphia, Pa.) (2-1) and sophomore first baseman Shannon McLaughlin (Haddon Heights, N.J.) (3-1). Unfortunately, Marymount University's three-run seventh inning crushed Gwynedd Mercy University's chances of a split; 4-3.

Griffin Highlights

Game 1

• Gwynedd Mercy University had base runners in the every inning, but the fourth. Junior designated player Ashley Focht (Harrisburg, Pa.) singled through the left side with two out in the first inning, freshman shortstop Hannah Smith (Levittown, Pa.) and freshman right fielder Kiersten Reeser (Warminster, Pa.) got aboard with two out in the second, junior center fielder Shylynn Cordero (Allentown, Pa.) walked to lead off the third, and Reeser singled to lead off the fifth.
• Focht, Smith, and Reeser were all 1-for-2.

Game 2

• Gwynedd Mercy University's three-run fourth started with a leadoff walk to Cordero. She advanced to second base on a Focht single to center field and scored on another single to center from Scally (1-1). Focht followed on a errant throw by the Marymount University catcher (2-1) and Scally too after a fly to left and McLaughlin single through the left side (3-1).
• Focht, Scally, McLaughlin, and junior right fielder Ava Casale (Sewell, N.J.) were all 1-for-3.

Gwynedd Mercy University concludes their regular season schedule on Monday, May 1, when they host Albright College for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader at Temple Ambler Softball Field.
