North Myrtle Beach, SC - (3/7/2023) - Gwynedd Mercy University (4-0) continued its strong start to the season as they defeated New Jersey City University (1-4) 17-3 in five innings and Lancaster Bible College (3-3) 8-7. In game one junior pitcher Jocelyn Baumeister (Willow Grove, Pa.) went 3-4 from the plate with a team-high three hits and three runs-batted-in (RBI). In game two senior captain infielder Allison Ross (Philadelphia, Pa.) also went 3-4 with a team-high three RBI.

Game 1 - Griffin Highlights:

• The Griffins offensive exploded in the first inning scoring seven runs. 
• Freshman catcher Camryn Kinney (East Stroudsburg, Pa.) got things started for Gwynedd Mercy with a double to left field to score junior utility player Shylynn Cordero (Allentown, Pa.) and give the Griffins an early 1-0 lead. 
• The next batter senior outfielder Emma Carney (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) doubled to left center allowing Kinney to cross home plate (2-0). 
• Baumeister singled to center field brining home Carney and putting Gwynedd Mercy up 3-0. 
• Freshman shortstop Hannah Smith (Levittown, Pa.) hit a double to center in her first pitch at bat to score Baumeister (4-0). 
• Freshman outfielder Kiersten Reeser (Warminster, Pa.) had an RBI single up the middle brining home sophomore infielder Shannon McLaughlin (Haddon Heights, N.J.) (6-0). 
• In the third inning that outburst occurred again this time eight Griffins scored. 
• Kinney again doubled to left field allowing Reeser to score (8-1). 
• Carney brought home two with a double to left field. (10-1).
• Baumeister again in the third brought home Carney with an RBI single up the middle (11-1). 
• Sophomore infielder Carly Maw (Bensalem, Pa.) joined in on the fun when she singled to center field and Baumeister crossed home plate (12-1). 
• Smith had an RBI single to right field bringing home Maw and extending the Griffins lead 13-1. 
• In the fourth, Baumeister doubled to left field with Kinney scoring (16-3). 
• The finishing touches were put on by Maw when she had a sacrifice fly to left field and giving the Griffins an eventual 17-3 victory. 
• Junior pitcher Ashley Haggerty (East Norriton, Pa.) pitched a complete game giving up three earned runs on nine hits while striking out two and getting her first win this season (1-0). 

Game 2 - Griffin Highlights: 

• Down 2-0 going into the bottom of the first junior captain infielder Ashley Focht (Harrisburg, Pa.) cut the lead to half (1-0) with an RBI single to right-center with Cordero scoring.
• Ross put the Griffins on top (3-2) with a two RBI single to right center brining home junior captain infielder Grace Scally (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Focht. 
• In the fourth with the score being tied 3-3 Focht again singled to right field allowing Cordero to score and putting the Griffins up 4-3. 
• Scally singled to center field extending Gwynedd Mercy's lead 4-3. 
• In the sixth inning, Ross had an RBI single with Baumeister crossing home plate. 
• Baumeister earned her second win (2-0) on the young season going three innings. She allowed three earned runs on four hits. 

Gwynedd Mercy University is back in action Wednesday, March 8, when they play Sweet Briar College (9:00 A.M.) and Elms College (1:00 P.M.) at North Myrtle Beach Field 2.
