#3 Griffins Exit AEC Baseball Championship Tournament After Loss to #4 Saints

Immaculata, Pa. - (5/12/2022) - Gwynedd Mercy University (17-22) and Marymount University (28-14) met at Immaculata University to engage in the first elimination of the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Baseball Championship Tournament. The Griffins put the game's first run on the scoreboard with a second-inning sacrifice fly from senior third baseman Jake Martell (Yardley, Pa.) and tied the score at 2-2 on the fourth-inning hustle of senior catcher Nate Campbell (Royersford, Pa.). Unfortunately, the Saints plated nine runs between the fifth (7-2) and sixth (11-2) innings to eliminate Gwynedd Mercy University from the postseason.

In the second inning, the Griffins put two runners aboard no outs thanks to lead-off singles from senior shortstop Rob Bailey (Abington, Pa.) and Campbell. Following a pop out to first base and an error at short, Bailey and Campbell were both in scoring position for Martell's sacrifice fly to center field, 1-0. Two innings later, Gwynedd Mercy University knotted the contest at 2-2 with a lead-off double from Campbell and a throw into left field on his attempt to steal third base. Martell (2-for-3, BB, RBI) and Campbell (2-for-2, 2 BB, R) both recorded a pair of hits. Bailey (1-for-4, R) and senior designated hitter Billy Collins (Hatfield, Pa.) (1-for-4) were responsible for the other Griffin hits; the latter singled to third base in the third inning. Sophomore Ryan Bailey (Levittown, Pa.) pitched three innings of scoreless relief (3.0 IP, 3 H, 5 K) to conclude the contest.

Gwynedd Mercy University finishes their 2022 season with a 17-22 overall record and a 10-8 AEC regular season standing.
