Aston, Pa. - (4/30/2022) - After back-to-back goals from senior midfielder Anna Grace Bernicker (Merion Station, Pa.) (2-1, 11:39) and senior attack Laura Pelczar (Philadelphia, Pa.) (3-1, 10:48), Gwynedd Mercy University (8-10) owned an early 3-1 lead in today's Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Quarterfinal at #3 Neumann University (9-7). Unfortunately, a six-goal run pushed the contest in the home team's favor, 4-3 (5:53), and propelled them for 10-6 (0:04) halftime edge. Bernicker dominated Gwynedd Mercy University's second-half effort, headlining a late third-quarter rally that brought the Griffins within a goal (11-10, 14:26) early in the fourth quarter. But a second Knight run acquired them a five-goal lead, 15-10 (1:01), before sophomore attack Kristin Varilla (Lansdale, Pa.) beat the final horn of a 15-11 (0:00) end.

Bernicker finished with five goals, an assist, a ground ball, and two draw controls. Pelczar and Varilla recorded three goals apiece; the former also offered two ground ball, four draw controls, and a caused turnover, while the latter additionally provided an assist, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers. In goal, junior goalkeeper Reilly Owens (Pottstown, Pa.) recovered two ground balls and made 17 saves in the loss (8-9).

Gwynedd Mercy University finishes the 2022 season with an 8-10 overall record and a 1-4 AEC standing.
