Hackettstown, N.J. - (4/23/2022) - After six scoreless innings, an exchange of runs in both the seventh (1-1) and eighth (2-2) innings brought the first game of today's Atlantic East Conference (AEC) doubleheader at Centenary University (6-21, 3-9) to a ninth frame. There, a pair of one-out hits pushed the Cyclones past Gwynedd Mercy University (5-25, 3-9) in a 3-2 final. The momentum carried Centenary University to a five-inning, 8-0 win in the second game of the twin bill. The Griffins only recorded three hits in the second contest; sophomore third baseman/pitcher Grace Scally (Philadelphia, Pa.) (1-for-2), sophomore pitcher/third baseman Ashley Focht (Harrisburg, Pa.) (1-for-2), and sophomore first baseman Ashley Haggerty (East Noriton, Pa.) (1-for-2) were responsible for the Griffin singles.

In the seventh inning of game one, sophomore catcher Abigail McCoy (Woodlyn, Pa.) batted in sophomore pitcher Jocelyn Baumeister (Willow Grove, Pa.) for the first run of the affair; 1-0. The Cyclones tied the contest in the bottom of the frame, 1-1, and matched a Scally run-scoring single in the first extra frame, before defeating the Griffins with a pair of one-out hits in the ninth inning. Sophomore second baseman Shylynn Cordero (Allentown, Pa.) was 3-for-4 with a run and Haggerty (2-for-4) recorded a pair of hits. Baumeister went the distance in game one (8.1 IP), taking the loss (3-9) despite holding the Cyclones to three runs on a dozen (12) hits and three walks. She struck out four.

Gwynedd Mercy University conclude their AEC season with a 3-9 record and conclude their 2022 schedule on Thursday, April 28, when they visit Rosemont College for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
