Sewanee, Tenn. - (3/6/2022) - Gwynedd Mercy University (4-2) played the first of two scheduled games at Sewanee, the University of the South (4-2) as the played the Tigers in today's afternoon affair. The Tigers scored the first six goals of the game, before sophomore attack Kristin Varilla (Lansdale, Pa.) scored the first of her two tallies, 6-1 (9:09). Senior attack Anna Grace Bernicker (Merion Station, Pa.) scored three consecutive goals (3:22, 2:36, 0:20) to headline a better Griffin second quarter, but the Sewanee secured a 14-6 (0:10) halftime lead, and a 19-8 (1:00) third-quarter advantage, before the game finished on a 21-10 (0:59) final.

Bernicker's three scores came with four ground balls, a caused turnover, and six draw controls. Varilla added her second goal later in the first quarter (8-2, 1:19). Junior midfielder Damali Teagle (Philadelphia, Pa.) also recorded a pair of goals. She additionally provided an assist, three ground balls, two caused turnovers, and five draw controls. Senior defender Seydel Acuna (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Griffin back line in front of junior goalkeeper Reilly Owens (Pottstown, Pa.) with five ground balls and five caused turnovers. Reilly took the loss (4-2) despite 13 saves, six ground balls, and three caused turnovers.

Gwynedd Mercy University remain at Swanee to face St. Mary's College (IN) in a 12:00 p.m. contest on Wednesday, March 9.
