Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (3/16/2022) - Senior midfielder Meleah Hoats (Conyngham, Pa.) put Gwynedd Mercy University (6-2) on the right path versus Rutgers University - Camden (2-3) with the first three goals (14:09, 13:44, 12:57) of the affair. The Raptors interrupted the Griffins' opening run with a goal at 11:05 (3-1), but the tally was just that - an interruption - as Gwynedd Mercy University owned a 14-3 (0:45) halftime lead and recorded an eventual 21-7 (1:09) victory.

Hoats (5 goals, 1 assist) and senior midfielder Laura Pelczar (Philadelphia, Pa.) (3 goals, 3 assists) totaled six point apiece; the former also recorded six ground balls and two caused turnovers, while the latter additionally provided a ground ball, four draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Sophomore attack Kristin Varilla (Lansdale, Pa.) (5 goals) and senior attack Anna Grace Bernicker (Merion Station, Pa.) (3 goals, 2 assists) were major contributors as well with five points apiece. Varilla added two ground balls to her scores, while Bernicker complimented her points with two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Junior midfielder Damali Teagle (Philadelphia, Pa.) recorded a pair of goals, while helping the Griffins keep possession with a ground ball, nine draw controls, and three caused turnovers. In goal, junior Reilly Owens (Pottstown, Pa.) earned the win (6-2) with six saves, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers in the first three quarters (45:00).

Hoats was nearly unstoppable in the first quarter as she added a fourth goal at 8:05 (4-1) and assisted Varilla on the Griffins' very next tally; 5-1 (7:11). Varilla made it 6-1 with her second score (6:43), leaving late tallies from Pelczar (7-2, 3:27) and Bernicker (8-2, 2:58) to land Gwynedd Mercy University their 8-2 halftime lead. Five straight second quarter scores gave the Griffins a running clock and a 13-2 lead with 4:22 remaining in the second quarter. Gwynedd Mercy University and Rutgers-Camden exchanged tallies to halftime, 14-3 (0:45), and for the first seven minutes of the third quarter, 15-5 (8:13), before a 4-2 final stretch that provided the Griffins the eventual 21-7 (1:09) victory.
