Men's Soccer Victorious over Valley Forge

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Gwynedd Mercy men's soccer team secured their first win of the season Thursday evening, defeating Valley Forge 4-2.

Despite a one goal deficit going into the second half, the Griffins clawed their way back into the game. Mike Fienman and Hugh Lynch powered the Gwynedd comeback with two goals apiece.

Fienman found the back of the net first scoring his first collegiate goal with an assist coming from Lynch. Ten minutes later, Lynch got his own tally after delivering on a penalty kick sailing the ball right past the goalkeeper's hands. Although the Patriots knocked another one in, both Fienman and Lynch delivered another time to round out the scoring at 4.

The Griffins outshot the Patriots 19-9 with Lynch tallying a team-high 8 shots. Fienman had 3 shots while Kasey Wallace, Eduardo Moreno, Gavin Greenley and Kevin Hanuscin made up the remaining shots. John Wagner made four saves in the net.

In the Gwynedd victory, Lynch came away with 5 points on 2 goals and an assist while Fienman earned 4 points off of 2 goals.

John Wagner came up big with 4 important saves on the night.

The men's soccer team looks for another win Saturday, October 2 at 3:30 p.m. when Gwynedd travels to Hackettstown, NJ for its first conference matchup against Centenary University.
