ASTON, PA. -- The #1 scoring offense in the nation was impressive again on Saturday as the Gwynedd Mercy University Women's Basketball Team scored a 110-89 Atlantic East victory at Neumann.
With the win, the Griffins clinch a home playoff game in the upcoming Atlantic East Conference playoffs and can improve their seed with two regular season games remaining.
Five different Griffins reached double figures will
Jill Kane leading the way with a career-high 20 points. The junior knocked down three triples and was a perfect 9-of-9 from the free throw line while recording eight steals.
Haley Crossley (15),
Tamia Wessels (13),
Elise Sylvester (10) and
Denise Sacco (10) rounded out the double-digit scoring. For the game, the visitors connected on 14 three pointers and added 28 points from the free-throw line.
After leading just 48-44 at the half, the Griffins scored a program-best 41 points in the third quarter on 12-of-23 (52.2%) shooting, connecting on seven triples and 10 free throws as part of a 25-6 stretch to close out the stanza. Rookie
Cayla Sharkey started the run with a pair of three pointers with
Tolu Omole and
Carley Huggard ending the stanza each adding a triple of their own.Â
Defensively the Griffins forced 45 Neumann turnovers and outrebounded the Knights, 59-53 with
Sydney Thompson pulling down a team-high 10.Â
Chelsea Keebler led the Knights with 18 points.
The Griffins return back to action on Wednesday hosting Immaculata University at 6 p.m.
