GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy gave defending Atlantic East Champ Marymount all they could handle, but it was the Saints posting an 83-71 decision Saturday afternoon at The Griffin Complex.
The Griffins battled back from a 10-point halftime deficit to get it to 61-60 heading into the final quarter, but Marymount's Katie McShea scored 16 of her game high 34 points in that final stanza.
The freshman trio of
Tamia Wessels,
Elise Sylvester, and
Kelly Owens each knocked down three three-pointers as the team hit a total of 14 on the day. Wessels led the squad with a season-high 16 points.
Denise Sacco added 12 while Sylvester and Owens finished with nine apiece.
After a triple from
Jill Kane midway in the second quarter to give the Griffins a 28-27 lead, the Saints closed the stanza on a 16-5 run to lead 43-33 at the break. GMercyU came alive in the third, shooting over 43% and knocking down a total of six threes, helping them rally to a one-point game. Marymount limited Gwynedd to 5-of-27 in the final 10 minutes to up their lead to double digits.
Gabriella Haddad added 12 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals for the Saints, who shot just under 45% for the game and held a 60-46 edge on the glass. McShea grabbed a game-best 18 rebounds.
Haley Crossley was the top rebounder for the Griffins with seven. The freshman also kicked in six points, a pair of blocks and an assist. Sacco,
Shannon Carroll and
Emma Keal each pulled down six boards.
The team is off until Wednesday when they welcome Neumann here for an AEC matchup starting at 6 p.m.
