GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Behind two goals in the final 4:18 of regulation, Gwynedd Mercy rallied to defeat FDU-Florham, 2-1, to extend their season-opening win streak to six games.
After a second-quarter goal put the Griffins in a 1-0 deficit at the half, GMercyU came alive in the fourth as the team fired off five of their nine shots and produced three of their six corners. On that third penalty corner of the stanza,
Allison Campbell redirected a blast from
Michaela Swenk to get Gwynedd on the board. The tally was Campbell's team-leading fifth on the year.
With just over a minute in regulation,
Ryan Murray knocked in the eventual game-winner, getting a stick off a rebound to give GMercyU its first lead.
Goalie
Abi Kennedy and the Griffin defense withstood a late push from the Devils to win their fourth one-goal game this season.
Gwynedd Mercy looked to take a lead late in the first, as they were awarded a penalty stroke on a foul during a penalty corner, but
Alyssa Tomsic's attempt was saved by FDU-Florham's Megan March.
Kennedy finished with four second-half saves while March recorded two.
The team returns to action on Tuesday when they head to nationally-ranked TCNJ.
