PHILADELPHIA, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy lost 5-3 to Immaculata in the championship match of the 2019 Atlantic East Women's Tennis Team Tournament Saturday evening.
The second-seeded Griffins were looking to knock off the top-seeded Mighty Macs and claim the first team championship in conference history, but their effort came up just a bit short.
In the best of nine format, where one team must five matches to be declared the winner, Gwynedd took a 2-1 lead after winning two of the three doubles matches. Immaculata scored wins at #5 and #6 singles to go up 3-2.
Jenna Trythall posted a straight-set win at #2 singles at the same time IU won at #3 singles to now lead 4-3. With #4 singles going into a tie break in the second set to force a third, Immaculata clinched the title with a win at #1 singles.

The team finishes at 11-4 and 3-1 in their first season in the Atlantic East Conference.
