PHILADELPHIA, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Men's Tennis Team had their season come to an end with their 5-0 semifinal defeat to Neumann in the 2019 Atlantic East Team Tournament on Thursday.
The Griffins entered as the third seed and were matched up against the second-seeded Knights, who scored an 8-1 decision back on April 13th in Aston.
The format in the team tournament is the first school to win five of the nine singles and doubles matches is declared the winner. With doubles starting things off, GMercyU fell behind, falling in all three matchups. Neumann was able to clinch the win with victories at #4 and #5 singles.
The loss marks the end of the run for the team's three seniors:
Brian Irwin,
Josh Reimel, and
Chris Wood. Reimel and Wood were three year members of the team while Irwin is the last member of the team's 2016 team that won the conference championship and played in an NCAA Tournament.
