GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Baseball team scored early and often in a 19-4 victory over visiting Delaware Valley University on Wednesday in their home opener.
Eleven different Griffins collected a hit as team combined for 19 on the day.
Ryan Keen led the attack going 3-for-3 with four runs scored and two runs batted in.
Billy Collins connected on a pair of doubles while driving in a team-high five runs.
T.J. Brasier and
Justin Curtin also drove in a pair of runs.
Bryan Kaelin picked up the win on the mound throwing five solid innings while striking out four batters. A Quintuplet of relievers in
Cameron Culver,
Alex Kaupp,
Liam Sullivan,
Jeff Seigafuse and George Stweart held Del Val off the scoreboard over the final four innings.
Del Val struck first scoring two runs in the visiting half of the first inning. The home team would respond scoring five on just two hits. Keen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score
Jason Mulvey. Collins followed with a walk to tie the game and a Braiser sac fly would give Gwynedd the lead for good. Collins and Keen would then come around to score for a 5-2 lead.
The Griffins scored six runs on six hits in the second inning to break the game open. RBI's from
Nick Mulvey, Keen, Collins and
Jason Mulvey highlighted the inning.
The home team would add on in the third with four runs and three hits. Keen,
Dave Tatoian, Brasier and
Josh Lopez all scored in the inning.
GMercyU would score their final two runs in the fifth with RBI's from
Alex Ritter and
Shaun Thomas. Ritter would score
Jack Jamison while
Jake Martell would come across the plate thanks to Thomas.
Gwynedd will return back to action on Saturday continuing Atlantic East Conference action hosting Marywood for a pair of games beginning at 12 p.m.
