ASTON, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy was knocked out of the 2019 Atlantic East Softball Tournament falling to the host Knights of Neumann in the day's first game and to Marywood in the second.
Game one
The sixth-seeded Griffins were limited to two hits as Neumann's Jen Sieminski struck out five with one walk. The top-seeded Knights plated nine runs in the second on 10 hits and a pair of Gwynedd errors to take the early lead.
A pair of RBI doubles in the fourth added to the Neumann advantage. The game would be called after the fifth.
Lauren Waller and
Tori Sherwood collected a hit each for GMercyU. Rachel Albertson was 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs for the Knights.
Game two
Gwynedd trailed 4-0 into the fifth, but the Pacers opened things up with seven runs in the top half.
Kirstie Alvarez struck out eight Griffins, while yielding one run on seven hits. Jackie Burke drove in four runs on two hits.
The Griffins crossed their run in the fifth when
Brianna Polly scored on an infield hit from
Tori Sherwood. Waller and
Rebecca Christoffers each tallied two hits apiece.
Gwynedd Mercy will close out the season on Tuesday with a non-conference doubleheader at Wilson.
