GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA.-- The Griffin Women's Tennis Team kicked off their spring season with a 9-0 home win against Rosemont on Saturday.
The Griffins started off with two solid doubles wins from the 1st team of
Natalie Danze and
Jenna Trythall, capturing a 8-0 win, which was followed by another shutout by the dynamic duo of Nikki Diaz and
Sydney Thompson, 8-0. Playing together for the first time ever, freshman
Jennifer Eisemann and newcomer
Shannon Carroll, pulled off a gritty 8-6 win at 3rd doubles.
Danze made things look easy in a 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles against Giselle Burley. Diaz and Thompson both cruised to convincing wins at 2nd and 3rd singles, respectively, 6-1, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-1. In what turned out to be a barnburner at 4th singles, Jenn Eisemann clawed back after dropping the first set 4-6, to fight back winning the second set, 6-4, and outlasting her opponent in the 3rd set tie-breaker for the 10-8 win.
Coach
Jim Holt stated "I was extremely pleased to see Jenn fight back and pull it out. That is the kind of confident and clutch performance I was looking for back when I recruited her! Hopefully, this is the start of something solid".
Fifth singles had
Jenna Trythall pulling off a 6-1, 6-4 win and Andrea Jurado-Hernandez glided to a nice shutout win of 6-0, 6-0 at 6th singles to wrap up the match. "Andrea was performing with a noticeable level of confidence, which was really nice to see" Holt expressed. "We most certainly have our work cut out for us this year, but for now, it was a decent win to emerge with."
The Griffins head to Bryn Mawr tomorrow for a 1 p.m. start time.
