ARLINGTON, VA. -- Gwynedd Mercy was knocked out of the 2019 Atlantic East Men's Soccer Tournament with a 2-1 loss at Marymount on Saturday afternoon.
The sixth-seeded Griffins were looking to upset the third-seeded Saints to move on to the semifinal round, but their journey came to an end.
Down 1-0 in the first half, rookie
Gavin Greenley scored his third on the season in the 38th minute.
Evan Kirby was credited with the assist, his second on the year. It would stay tied as the teams headed into the half.
Marymount's Jesus Rios put the home team up with his tally early in the second half. Despite all three of their shots coming in the first half, the Griffins mustered up three corner kicks in the second stanza ,but could find the equalizer.
Goalie Tyler Blaiir started and finished with four saves. The Saints' Ronald Clark recorded two stops.
The loss marks the end of the career of the team's lone senior, goalie
Kace Peters. He has played in 34 career games with 26 starts in net. He owns a 2.27 goals against average and four shutouts in over 2137 minutes of action.
