GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy Men's Soccer Team will be making their Atlantic East Conference postseason debut as the sixth-seeded Griffins travel to #3 Marymount on Saturday for a first-round game of the AEC Tournament.
The contest will begin at 1 p.m. from Long Bridge Park in Arlington, Va.
The Griffins claimed their playoff spot by holding the tiebreaker with Marywood for the sixth and final seed. GMercyU edged the Pacers, 1-0, back on October 16th.
The Saints recorded a 4-2 record in conference play including a 1-0 overtime victory in Arlington back on October 12th. Last season, Marymount fell in the first round of the playoffs at Immaculata in overtime, 1-0.
Gwynedd Mercy, who has fought through a myriad of injuries this year, will look for a trio of sophomores to put the ball in the net.
Hugh Lynch leads the team with four goals while
Tyler Bascone has three and
Evan Kirby with two.
Mike Czajka has three tallies in 2019, but is out for the season with an injury. In net, the duo of
Kace Peters and
Tyler Blair have combined for four shutouts and a 1.66 goals against average. For the Saints, Ridwaan Robinson is fourth in the AEC with eight goals while teammate Justin Mezza is second with five assists. Freshman goalie Eduardo Cardonne has seen the most time in net, posting a 1.54 GAA and a 4-6 record.
Other first-round action pits #5 Neumann at #4 Wesley. #1 Cabrini and #2 Immaculata have earned byes. Semifinal games will take place on Tuesday, November 5th with the AEC Championship on Saturday, November 9th.
