LAPLUME, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy totaled eight extra-base hits including three home runs to power past #24 Keystone in an 11-6 Colonial States Athletic Conference victory to win their eighth-straight contest.
Gwynedd used a big six-run seventh that featured back-to-back homers from
Dave Tatoian and
Shaughn Wright. Tatoian finished the day 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs while Wright was 2-for-5 with three RBIs.
Tommy Nardini tied a career high with three hits including an RBI double.
The Griffins (16-11, 10-3 CSAC) got on the board first, scoring three times in the third thanks to an RBI single from
Nick Mulvey and a two-run double from Wright. The Giants answered with a run in the bottom half and in the fourth, cross two unearned runs to tie things up at 3-3.
After
Ryan Keen led off the fifth with a solo homer to right for his fifth longball of the season, Nardini made it 5-3 as he doubled in Tatoian.
A solo shot Mohammed Hussein in the sixth, pulled Keystone within one.
In that big seventh inning, Keen reached on a lead-off walk. The next batter was Tatoian, who belted his team-leading sixth homerun. Wright followed with his second on the season. After the back-to-back homers, a single from Nardini, a walk from
Evan Miller, and a base hit from
Bobby Heck loaded the bases for
Sachael Sciarretta, who hit a double in the gap to score two runs. Heck came home on sac fly from Mulvey for the sixth run of the inning.
On the mound,
Bryan Kaelin entered for starter
Nick DeRitis in the fourth and threw until the ninth to earn the win in relief.
Liam Sullivan came on after a lead-off single in the ninth and struck out two and got the third out on a grounder to snap Keystone's 11-game win streak and hand them their first conference loss.
Hussein was 3-for-4 with three runs, a walk, and a double for the Giants (26-8, 14-1 CSAC)
