Softball Stays Hot, Cages Gators

DUNDALK, MD. -- Playing their fourth CSAC Doubleheader in as many days, Gwynedd Mercy added to their win streak, making it 10 in a row on Monday with a sweep at Notre Dame of Maryland. The Griffins took game one, 8-0, and the second, 10-0.

Game one
Amanda Clark drove in three runs and Tori Sherwood added a pair of RBI triples to help spike the offense. Starting pitcher Emma Clark struck out three yielding just two hits to pick up the win.

The Griffins took advantage of three Gator errors in the second to score four runs. Lauren Waller would reach on an error at second and come around to score on the first of Sherwood's triple. Kelsey Czibik was able to drive in Sherwood for a 2-0 lead. Later, a two-run error allowed Sherwood and Ciara Diehl to score.

Sherwood struck again in the third as her two-out three-bagger plated Amanda Clark. Clark then hit a bases-loaded clearing double in the fourth to stretch the lead to 8-0. The game was ended after the fifth.

Game two
Sherwood stayed hot in the second game knocking in three runs with a double and her third triple on the day. Clark was a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and an RBI and Alex Kinal scored three time with two hits and a stolen base.

Melissa Hess tossed a one-hit shutout, fanning three with only one walk.

The offense put up four runs in each of the first and second innings. Kinal plated Erin Hallahan and Brianna Polly doubled home Kinal in the fifth to account for the scoring.

The Griffins (26-4, 17-1 CSAC) will host Cabrini on Friday with and can move closer to locking down the #1 playoff seed and setting a program record for wins in a season.
