DOYLESTOWN, PA. --
Lauren Mitros scored three times including her 100th career goal but Gwynedd Mercy was edged out at Delaware Valley, 18-17.
The senior, who also added a personal-best three assists on the day, becomes one of 10 players in program history to break the century mark in goal scoring. Mitros also collected 15 draw controls which is a career high and a Griffin single-game record.
For the second-straight game,
Alyssa Tomsic tallied five goals and a helper and teammate
Victoria Braeunle would lead all scorers with a game-high six.
Mitros' milestone goal came at the 18:08 of the second half and gave the Griffins their final lead of the contest. The Aggies rattled three in a row of their own over the next minute and change.
Braeunle netted two straight, the last coming with 4:30 remaining to pull Gwynedd (1-2) even, 16-16. After the ensuing draw, both teams each had a possession and a free position shot, but each attempt was turned away. Kara Imes and Amanda McKeegan however gave Del Val a two-goal lead with just over two minutes to go.
With the clock showing 1:08 to go, Braeunle netted her fifth free position tally of the day to get the Griffins within one. Mitros was able to grab possession off the draw and help set up Tomsic, her shot was stopped by goalie Amanda Dietrich. With seconds ticking down, the ensuing clear attempt was turned over to the Griffins, but Gwynedd could not get a shot off before the final horn sounded.
Dietrich and Gwynedd goalie
Nicole Wood each recorded 16 saves in the contest.
Both Imes and McKeegan totaled four goals apiece. Braeunle added a game-high eight groundballs, six draws, and two caused turnovers.
Gwynedd Mercy will play at Wesley this Saturday in an 11:30 a.m. start.
