ASTON, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy Women's Basketball team scored an 83-63 Colonial States Athletic Conference victory at Neumann on Wednesday evening. With the win, the Griffins secured the #2 seed for the upcoming CSAC playoffs and will finish the regular season atop the CSAC North Division.
Olivia Roseman led the Griffins, tying a career high with 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting.
Chyanne Fine posted a double-double with 15 points and a personal-best 14 rebounds.
Bianca Adams (17),
Susan Bossler (11) and
Larissa Leyes (11) also reached double figures for the Griffins.
In the first period, a Bossler jumper gave the Griffins an early 11-8 lead halfway through the stanza. After a Neumann free throw to cut the lead to three (16-13), Leyes would spark a 7-2 run to close out the frame. Roseman added a layup with under a minute remaining while Leyes would knock down a triple with less than ten seconds remaining to give GMercyU a 23-15 advantage going into the second.
While the Griffins would hold their lead throughout the start of the second period, Neumann tried to fight their way back in, taking a 27-26 edge with 5:43 till the half. Roseman and company would respond, retaking the lead with a bucket (28-27) and closing the half on a 13-2 run. Following another Roseman layup, Adams answered the Neumann press with back-to-back fast break layups. A Fine bucket and free throws from Adams would put Gwynedd ahead, 39-29, at the break.
Up 10 entering the third, GMercyU outscored the Knights, 25-21 in the quarter. Adams scored with seconds remaining to close out the frame with GMercyU ahead, 64-50.
Neumann shrunk the advantage to 10 with 5:09 to play (72-62). After four-straight points from Roseman, Bossler hit from downtown with her first three ball of the game to put Gwynedd in the driver's seat 79-62. The team ended the contest on an 11-1 run to account for the 83-63 win.
The Griffins outrebounded the Knights, 44-38, and held Neumann to (33.3%) 25-of-75 from the field. Gwynedd shot (51.6%) 33-of-64 for the game and made 8-of-16 from beyond the arc. Juliana Hoisington added eight points, seven rebounds and a team high six assists.
The Griffins return home on Saturday hosting Centenary at 1 p.m. here at The Griffin Complex. GMercyU will honor its four seniors: Adams, Hoisington, Leyes and
Alison Szyszko.
