GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy Women's Soccer Team concluded their 2018 season on Wednesday in a tough 2-1 defeat to Penn State-Brandywine on Senior Night.

Prior to the contest, the coaching staff and team took time to honor their six seniors: Kailey Hopkins, Cassidy Rudd, Morgan McAndrews, Christina Surette, Tori Goebig, and Lauren Melino.

Victoria Braeunle scored for the Griffins, who were rallying from a two-goal deficit in the second half.

Each team recorded seven shots in the first 45 minutes while GMercyU totaled nine first-half corner kicks, but both teams were scoreless.

The Lions' Brianna Banks netted the first of her two goals on the night, the first coming in the 58th minute as she was able to one touch a feed into the box past a diving Hopkins for a 1-0 score. Banks struck again on a similar play, as she outraced a long pass in the 70th minute for a two-goal edge.

Braenle and the Griffins answered just over four minutes later, as the sophomore worked her way around a defender in the box and registered her team-leading four goal to cut the deficit in half. Braeunle had a couple of good looks down the stretch but was snuffed out by Penn State goalie Emily Bush.

Bush made 11 saves for the Lions while Hopkins finished with two.

Hopkins leaves her name in the Griffin record book as she ranks second all-time in goals against average (0.91 GAA) and save percentage (.868). Her 334 career saves put her fourth while her 25 wins rank her fifth.
The six seniors leave with a 37-27-9 record along with a conference championship appearance in 2015.
