GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy held Keystone to just six points in the final quarter to go on and win their fifth game in a row, as the Griffins posted a 66-52 victory over the Giants Monday night at The Griffin Complex. The game was a rescheduled matchup from last Wednesday.
GMercyU forced eight turnovers and limited Keystone to only a 3-for-9 shooting effort over the final 10 minutes to erase a two-point deficit after three quarters of play.
Julianna Hoisington and
Susan Bossler paced the offense each scoring 15 points.
Bianca Adams and
Larissa Leyes chipped in 12 apiece. The team connected on nine three pointers on the evening with Hoisington and Leyes draining three each.
Keystone took a one-point lead late in the first (12-11) and rode that to their largest lead of the game after a bucket from Maddy Moro made it eight-straight points and a 20-11 edge. But Gwynedd responded as Adams and Bossler totaled all nine points over a two-minute span to knot things up a 20-20. The Giants again looked to pull away, using a 12-5 run capped with a three from Sydney Craig for a 32-25 lead with just over a minute in the half, but the Griffins countered with a spurt of their own. Two free throws from
Olivia Roseman and later a three from Hoisington in their final possession of the stanza got things to a 32-30 game at halftime.
Hoisington stayed hot, hitting a three to open the third and give GMercyU its first lead since the early in the game and kickstarted a 10-0 spurt for an eight-point advantage. The Giants would not go away, using eight-straight points of their own to knot it up at 40-40. After a three from Leyes, Keystone was able to end the quarter on a bucket from Moro for a 46-44 lead.
After the teams traded buckets to start the final quarter, Hoisington's triple put Gwynedd up for good (49-48) and lit the fire for a 13-0 game-changing run.
Moro finished with six points and 20 rebounds for the Giants (3-13, 2-7 CSAC). Nina Hodanich scored 14 and Autum Kitajima added 11 for Keystone.
Gwynedd Mercy is back at it on Wednesday night when they welcome Cedar Crest in a 7 p.m. start.
