DALLAS, PA. --
Maggie Walsh scored off a penalty corner with 22 seconds in regulation capping a late rally as Gwynedd Mercy won 3-2 over King's at the Misericordia Tournament on Saturday.
The goal came seven minutes after the Griffins (2-0) tied the game at 2-2 when
Brianna O'Connell tallied off another corner. In total, the team produced seven of their nine penalty corners in the second half.
For O'Connell, her goal put her over 100 career points, making her the sixth player in program history to accomplish the milestone. She now has 101 points as a Griffin.
The first half saw a total of seven shots from both teams, but it was the Monarchs who held the 1-0 lead after the first 35 minutes. In the second, a flurry of goals took place over the final 14:20 of the stanza.
Melissa Russo put GMercyU on the board to tie things up as she converted off a corner.
After King's would go ahead at the 8:56 mark, but O'Connell answered just over a minute later, setting the stage for Walsh and her game winner.
Gwynedd fired off 17 shots, 14 in the second, compared to nine from King's. Goalie
Sarah Crane picked up the win in goal, recording one save.
The Griffins head home to face Delaware Valley in their home opener on Wednesday night starting at 7 p.m.
