GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy kicked off its fall season hosting Division II University of the Sciences, but it was the Devils coming away with an 8-1 decision.

The Griffins lone win came at #3 doubles as the team of Jenna Trythall and Nicolette Diaz were 8-4 winners.

The team has been used to playing mainly in the fall throughout their history, but with the conference changing the traditional season to the spring this season, the Griffins were a bit out of sync.

"The scores certainly were not indicative of the actual competition, as almost every match was very tight, with an extensive amount of points lasting over 20 shots each before a point was won" Coach Holt stated.

"All of the gals gave it their all with little time to prepare and I'm proud of them. I'm especially proud of freshman Nicki Diaz who was playing in her first collegiate match against a much more experienced and bigger opponent, but hung in there to fight and make it a tough match for her opponent."

The Griffins next square off with Delaware Valley on Wednesday at 4:30pm at home.
