MOOSIC, PA. – Immaculata knocked out Gwynedd Mercy of the 2017 CSAC Baseball Tournament by a score of 20-7 in an elimination game at PNC Field Friday afternoon, ending the Griffin's season.
Ryan Keen and
Nick Mulvey (double, homer run) each had two hits apiece, but Gwynedd fell behind early and could not catch up. IU scored runs in each of the first four innings to build an 8-0 advantage.
Justin Dempsey was 4-for-6 with five RBI's and three runs scored for the Mighty Macs, who move on to face Neumann in another elimination game Friday night.
Mike Di Ianni was pinned with loss, going five innings, striking out six, but yielding eight runs on nine hits. Eddie Decker went eight innings for IU (24-11), fanning eight with two earned runs on nine hits.
Mulvey would hit a solo homer in the seventh, while in the eighth, Keen's RBI single and
Josh Lopez's sac fly highlighted a three-run frame. In the ninth,
Brandon Gray drew a hit by pitch with the bases loaded and
Sachael Sciarretta hit a two-run single to account for the GM scoring.
Gwynedd Mercy finishes the season with a final record of 23-16-1.
