LAPLUME, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Baseball team fell to defending Colonial Sates Athletic Conference champion Keystone College, 10-5, on Saturday afternoon in the opening game of their three-game series.
The two teams will meet tomorrow in a doubleheader in Gwynedd Valley starting at 1 p.m.
Griffin outfielder
Jason Mulvey was 3-for-4 on the day with an RBI and stolen base.
Bobby Heck,
Dave Tatoian,
Ryan Keen and
Shaughn Wright each had a pair of hits for GMercyU who as a team had a total of 13 on the day.
Trailing 4-0, after three innings of play, the Griffins strung together five runs on six hits in the top of the fourth inning to take their first lead of the game. With one out, Keen would start the rally with a base hit, followed by a
Josh Lopez walk and a Wright single to load the bases.
Tommy Nardini,
Nick Mulvey and
Jason Mulvey would all knock in runs with one-out singles. Heck would put the Griffins ahead with a single to the outfield to score a pair of runs.
The Giants would answer in the home half of the fifth inning retaking the lead with three runs in the frame.
Keystone would add insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings.
The Griffins were able to put a runner on in the fifth, sixth, seventh and ninth innings but were unable to chip away at the Keystone lead.
Jared Gorman suffered the loss, pitching into the sixth, allowing five earned runs on seven hits. Keystone's Troy Terzi went seven innings, striking out eight with just one walk for the win.
