CAMDEN, N.J. -- The Gwynedd Mercy Women's Lacrosse Team closed out its 2017 season playing at Rutgers-Camden, but it was the home Scarlet Raptors posting a 21-10 victory over the Griffins Thursday afternoon.
Lauren Mitros led GMercyU with four points on three goals and an assist.
Samantha Brown also added a hat trick while
Kerri Flanagan and
Aubrey Cook each contributed two goals. The Griffins fought back to trail by five at the break, but would only muster two goals over the final 15:40 as Rutgers-Camden built a double-digit lead.
The Scarlet Raptor's Taylor Reader netted five goals as part of a 7-0 scoring run to open the game. Goals from Mitros, Brown, and Cook helped to pull things to 8-4 with 7:07 left in the first stanza. After Mitros added two-straight to get within three, Rutgers-Camden potted three in a row. Brown connected after a free position attempt with seconds remaining to make it a 12-7 contest.
Early goals in the second from both teams precluded a four-goal spurt by the Scarlet Raptors over an eight-minute span. Cook and Flanagan would net the team's lone goals the rest of the way to account for the scoring.
Reader finished with a game-high seven points on six goals and an assist. Nicole Martin chipped in three scores and two helpers.
Goalie
Bria Gillard made 13 saves in net for GM while Caitlyn Snyder made six for RC.
The game marked the final appearances for the team's five seniors: Cook, Flanagan, Williams,
Christy Knipe and
Christi Gibbs. In their four seasons, they have made three CSAC Tournament Appearances.
