LANGHORNE, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Baseball Team dropped a pair of one run games (4-3, 7-6) on Sunday at Cairn in a Colonial States Athletic Conference Doubleheader. The Highlanders won game one, 4-3, and the second, 7-6.

Ryan Keen, Nick Mulvey and Bobby Heck each had a multiple hit game for the Griffins in game one. Keen went 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored in game one while Mulvey had a run knocked in and scored in game two.

Tommy Nardini drove in three runs and Justin Forktus drove in a pair in the nightcap.

Nick DeRitis took the loss in game one despite giving up just two unearned runs.  The Griffins struck first with an RBI single from Keen in the top of the first. The Highlanders would respond with a pair of runs in the third and a run in the fourth for a 3-1 edge.

In the top of the fifth, a Shaughn Wright RBI base hit would score Justin Curtin to cut the lead to 3-2. A Josh Lopez sacrifice fly would score Keen to tie the game 3-3. In the home half of the fifth, Cairn countered with a run to take back a 4-3 lead. The Griffins were unable to get a runner in scoring position in the final two innings.

In game two, Cairn scored four runs in the first and two in the second for an early 6-0 lead.  The Griffins would chip away in the top of the fourth on a Nardini two-run single and a Nick Mulvey RBI single to cut the lead in half 6-3.

Forktus would drive in a pair with a two out double in the sixth to cut the lead to 6-5.

The Highlanders would answer with a run in the bottom of the inning to hold a 7-5 lead heading into the seventh.

A Curtin double would lead off the inning. After Wright walk and Lopez hit by pitch the Griffins had the bases loaded with one out. A Nardini sac-fly would cut the lead to one but the Highlanders closer would induce a groundball to spoil the Griffin rally.

Gwynedd returns back to action tomorrow to close out the three game series against the Highlanders.
