RADNOR, PA. --
Alyssa Morales twirled a gem in game two to help Gwynedd Mercy split a CSAC Doubleheader at Cabrini on Thursday. Morales struck out five and allowed one earned run in a 5-2 win. The Cavaliers, however, took the first game, 12-4.
Game one
The Griffins would strike for a pair of runs in the first as
Lauren Waller tripled home
Jessica Behr. Waller then came home on a single from
Jenna Trythall. But the Cavaliers answered with a five-spot in the bottom half on three hits and two Gwynedd errors.
Trailing 7-2 going into the fifth, Behr smacked a two-run homerun, giving her five on the season and her 15th career dinger, putting her in a tie for the most in program history, and more importantly pulling the Griffins within three. However, Cabrini would plate five runs in their at-bat, on four hits and an error to take game one.
Behr finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored.
Alexis Gartner took the loss, pitching into the fifth.
Game two
Morales scattered six hits, allowing just one earned run while striking out five and walking just one. After getting out of a bases loaded jam in the first, she ended the game retiring 10 of the 11 batters she faced.
Gartner's sac fly and
Becki Christoffers' RBI single would put the Griffins up, 2-0 in the second. Gwynedd used another two-spot in the very next inning to up the lead to 4-0. The Cavaliers crossed an unearned run in the bottom of the third and got a sac fly in the fourth to cut into the GM lead.
Gartner added her second RBI of the game in the sixth, this time on an RBI base hit to score
Erin Hallahan to help add some insurance.
Hallahan was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI in the third while Gartner was officially 1-for-2 with a pair of runs knocked in.
