RADNOR, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy clinched the #3 playoff seed and a first-round home game with its 61-49 win at Cabrini in the regular season finale on Saturday.
The Griffins (15-10, 13-3 CSAC) will take on sixth-seeded Immaculata here at The Griffin Complex this Monday night with a tentative start time of 6 p.m. in a first-round matchup.
Bianca Adams netted a game-high 14 points, going a perfect 6-for-6 in the fourth quarter at the free-throw line to help keep the Cavaliers in their rearview mirrors. She would also tie a personal best, snaring seven rebounds. As a team, GMercyU was 18-of-24 from the line for the game and 11-of-13 in the final stanza alone.
Charlotte Kucowski recorded her 12th double-double of the season, totaling 11 points, a career-high tying 17 rebounds, while adding five blocks and hitting three of the team's five three-pointers.
Julianna Hoisington added 10 points while
Nicole Dombrowski pulled down 10 boards.
Gwynedd would fall behind early, trailing 8-2 three minutes into the contest. Kucowski's triple helped start their mojo and more importantly a 12-0 run over the next three minutes. GM would lead by five (17-12) after one.
Adams would complete a three-point play to put GMercyU up 20-14 1:44 into the period, but the Cavaliers would put together a scoring run of their own. An 8-0 spurt would give Cabrini a 22-20 off a Myonie Williamson layup.
Chyanne Fine would hit for two with her bucket in the paint as the teams headed into the locker room knotted up at 22-22.
Back-to-back three-pointers from Kucowski and Hoisington late in the third turned a three-point lead into a 40-31 edge with 3:20 remaining. The team would hold that nine-point edge (46-37) heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth, the lead would grow to 13 after two Dombrowski free throws, but Cabrini (14-11, 12-4 CSAC) pulled it within 50-44 after a Renee Oliver layup with 3:25 in the game. On the next possession, Dombrowski hit a big putback and draw a foul to turn the momentum back towards the Griffins. From there, the Cavaliers went without a field goal for just over three minutes as Gwynedd would hit 9-of-10 at the charity stripe down the stretch to restore a double-digit lead.
Williamson finished with 10 points while teammate Erin Dodds had 11. Oliver totaled nine points, eight rebounds, and three blocks.
Gwynedd defeated the Mighty Macs, 77-35, here at home back on February 4th.
