WILKES-BARRE, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Women's Basketball fell on the road Thursday evening 58-53 to King's College.
Susan Bossler led the Griffins with a team high 16 points and eight rebounds.
Julianna Hoisington added 14 as GMercyU fell to 4-3 on the season.
Mackenzie Yori had a game-high 18 points for the Monarchs (5-2)
King's would score the first bucket of the game but the Griffins would respond with a 8-0 run started by a
Bianca Adams three pointer and five points from Hoisington. The Monarchs would end the quarter on a 7-0 run to hold a 9-8 lead after the first ten minutes.
The Griffins would trail 14-8 in the early moments of the second quarter. After a team timeout, GMercyU would respond with a 6-0 spurt highlighted by a pair of
Shannon Carroll baskets to tie the contest 14-14 at the 6:46 mark. King's would stretch their lead back to five (19-14) but a Hoisington jumper and a quartet of
Rebecca Fuehrer free throws would cut the lead to one 21-20. A Bossler layup with a minute remaining would be the last field goal of the half to give Gwynedd a 22-21 lead at the break.
In a high scoring third quarter, the Griffins would trail 28-22 to start the frame. GMercyU would cut the lead to one three different times in the quarter to trail 34-33 on a Hoisington layup. King's would take their largest lead (40-33) at the 2:07 mark but a Bossler jumper and five points from
Olivia Roseman would tie the game at 40-40. The Monarchs would retake the lead 42-40 with a buzzer beating layup.
A pair of three pointers from Hoisington and Bossler would get the Griffins on track to start the fourth to take a four point lead (46-42). King's would answer to tie the game but Bossler would help GMercyU retake the lead 50-48. After a Monarch three pointer to regain the lead the Griffins grinded out a possession that saw two offensive rebounds to lead to an Adams three pointer for a 53-51 lead, their final advantage of the night, with 2:13 to play. King's would close out the contest on a 7-0 spurt over the final two minutes to come away with the 58-53 victory.
For the game the Griffins shot 20-0f-63 (31.7%) knocking down six three pointers and making seven free throws. King's shot 23-of-55 (41.8%) making six three pointers as well.
GMercyU out-rebounded the Monarchs 41-37.
Roseman dished out seven assists along with six rebounds and five points.
The Griffins return back to action on December 16th at Alvernia for a 1 p.m. tip-off
