HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. -- Gwynedd Mercy led from start to finish in a 56-41 Colonial States Athletic Conference victory at Centenary on Saturday.
The Griffins shot 33% on the day (20-of-60) but dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Cyclones, 48-31 and limited Centenary to one offensive board.
Offensively,
Julianna Hoisington netted 14 points and
Bianca Adams chipped in 12 to lead GMercyU (4-1, 2-0 CSAC).
Marisa Sullivan recorded eight points and 10 rebounds, both personal bests. Adams also notched a career-high, pulling down eight rebounds.
Nicole Cartaino led the Cyclones (2-5, 1-1 CSAC) with 14 points while teammate Rachel Edwards had 13 points and seven boards.
Back-to-back three-pointers from Adams and
Susan Bossler early in the first got Gwynedd Mercy out of the gate. Sullivan's baseline jumper on the final possession of the quarter stretched the lead to 18-9 after one.
Marissa Sandone connected from downtown to open the second to give the Griffins a double-digit lead, one they would keep throughout the stanza as the team took a 33-21 lead at the half.
Buckets from Sullivan and Hoisington in the third gave Gwynedd its largest lead of the contest (37-21), but Centenary got it to a 10-point contest (43-33) to begin the fourth.
With 6:30 in the game, a layup from Edwards pulled the Cyclones within 48-39, but on the ensuing possession,
Larissa Leyes drained a big three to restore the double-figure advantage.
Action resumes on Monday, when Gwynedd Mercy welcomes DeSales to The Griffin Complex for a non-conference clash starting at 7 p.m.
