Women's Soccer Bows Out Of CSAC Playoffs

2017 CSAC Tournament Semifinal

SCRANTON, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy's playoff run came to an end as the fourth-seeded Griffins fell, 4-2, at top-seeded Marywood Wednesday evening in a CSAC Tournament Semifinal matchup.

Sarah Nedwick and Meghan Petroski scored for GMercyU on a cold and rainy evening with goalie Kailey Hopkins recording 11 saves in net.

The Pacers struck first with a score 5:36 into the contest but Nedwick answered just over eight minutes later as she put in Petroski's rebound for the senior's sixth on the yearr. A breakaway goal from Marywood's Jackie Von Itter with 29:34 in the half marked the game's third goal in the first 15:25 of the contest and put the Pacers back on top. A goal later in the stanza would put Gwynedd in a 3-1 halftime deficit.

Marywood added a score in the 62nd minute before Petroski netted her 17th of the season in the 68th to round out the scoring.

Aly Moyer recorded four stops for the Pacers (12-5) who will host the final on Saturday.

For Petroski, her 17 goals, 12 assists, and 46 points were all career highs this year. She leaves her mark in the Gwynedd record books as she is second all-time in goals (49), assists (39), and points (137). She joins fellow seniors, Nedwick, Anna Numerato, Grace Macnamara, and Danielle Schneck in playing their final games as a Griffin. Their four-year record stands at 44-24-8 with four conference semifinal appearances and a championship game spot in 2015.

The Griffins finish the season with a final mark of 11-6-1.
