Overtime Goal Downs Men's Soccer Against Keystone

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Keystone scored 1:04 into overtime to defeat Gwynedd Mercy, 2-1, Saturday afternoon and eliminate the Griffins from their playoff quest.

GMercyU, which needed to win their two final conference games, trailed 1-0 at the half. But early in the second, freshman Kevin Bowers injected some life into the squad with his free kick goal 2:53 into the stanza. After a foul that set up the kick from about 30 yards out, Bowers connected squarely with his blast reaching the top left corner just off the fingertips of Keystone goalie Malcom Moreira.

Less than five minutes later, Bower had a another prime scoring chance after a penalty kick was awarded after Matt Bachmann was taken down by Moreira on a free ball in the box. Moreira would draw a yellow, but Bower's shot clanged off of the bottom of the crossbar and cleared out by the Keystone defense.

After the teams were deadlocked at 1-1 after 90 minutes, Kouassi Kouadio, who assisted on the Giants' first goal, would end it beating Griffin goalie Kace Peters.

Peters was stellar in net, making six saves to keep his team in the contest. Moreira was not officially credited with a save.

In the pregame coin toss, the squad was joined by honorary captain Emmett Tolis, through conjunction with The Sunshine Foundation, and was able to take a picture with the team.

Gwynedd Mercy hosts Immaculata on Thursday in CSAC action before welcoming Bryn Athyn next Saturday to close out the season.
