Griffins Conquer Clarks Summit

CLARKS SUMMIT, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Women's Basketball team picked up an 88-38 Colonial States Athletic Conference victory Thursday night over Clarks Summit.

The Griffins were led by Charlotte Kucowski with 21 points, seven rebounds, and a personal-best seven steals. Chyanne Fine had a productive night off the bench, recording career highs in both points (16) and rebounds (10) for her first career double-double. Julianna Hoisington rounded out the scoring adding 11.

GMercyU jumped out early in the first quarter with an 18-0 run capped by a Nicole Dombrowski layup. The Griffins would hold a 24-6 lead at the end of the quarter.
In the second stanza, Gwynedd closed the half on an 11-2 run that saw Fine record eight of those 11 points for a 42-14 halftime lead.

In the third quarter the Griffins used a 17-0 run to start the stanza for a 59-14 lead. Kucowski started the run with a three pointer and layup while fine ended the run with her 10th point on the evening. Gwynedd scored 23 points in both quarters of the second half for the victory.

Torri Erdman had nine points and nine rebounds to lead the Defenders (0-10, 0-4 CSAC)

For the game the Griffins shot 35-of-77 (45.5%) from the field, the Defenders shot 12-for-46 (26.1%) from the field. GMercyU out-rebounded CSU 45-24.

The Griffins (5-7, 3-0 CSAC) return back to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Centenary University at 1 p.m.
