Griffins to enter CSAC Tournament as #3 seed

IMMACULATA, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy took game one, 8-4, lost in the bottom of the seventh in a 1-0 defeat in game two as the Griffins and Immaculata split a CSAC Doubleheader in the regular season finale on Saturday.

The Griffins (26-10, 17-5 CSAC) finish as the #3 playoff seed and will host a first-round CSAC Tournament Play-In game here on Wednesday against #6 Cedar Crest.

In game one, Jessica Behr was 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI's. She would add a two-run homer run in the first while Nikki Canfield added two hits with a two-run  double in the third. In that inning, Gwynedd scored four times to erase a 3-2 deficit and hold the lead the rest of the way.

Behr knocked in her third run of the day with an RBI groundout in the fourth. The Mighty Macs crossed a run in the bottom of the sixth on and RBI single, but GMercyU got it back in the seventh as Behr would score from third on a grounder to short off the bat of Kim Machalette.

Machalette picked up the win on the mound, raisning her record to 13-4 on the year.

Both teams went scoreless for six-plus innings before Immaculata took advantage of an error in the walk-off win. After a lead-off double, IU would put runners on the corners with two outs. A grounder to short was misplayed allowing the winning run to scamper home.

Alyssa Morales was the tough-luck loser, scattering seven hits with one unearned run. Gwynedd was limited to three hits from IU's Jessica Bormann.

Behr had two of the three hits, going 2-for-3. In the fourth, she would reach on a one-out single but would get doubled off on a liner to short.

Wednesday's first-round winners will move on to the double elimination tournament at Neumann starting on Friday morning.
