IMMACULATA, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy took game one, 8-4, lost in the bottom of the seventh in a 1-0 defeat in game two as the Griffins and Immaculata split a CSAC Doubleheader in the regular season finale on Saturday.
The Griffins (26-10, 17-5 CSAC) finish as the #3 playoff seed and will host a first-round CSAC Tournament Play-In game here on Wednesday against #6 Cedar Crest.
In game one,
Jessica Behr was 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI's. She would add a two-run homer run in the first while
Nikki Canfield added two hits with a two-run double in the third. In that inning, Gwynedd scored four times to erase a 3-2 deficit and hold the lead the rest of the way.
Behr knocked in her third run of the day with an RBI groundout in the fourth. The Mighty Macs crossed a run in the bottom of the sixth on and RBI single, but GMercyU got it back in the seventh as Behr would score from third on a grounder to short off the bat of
Kim Machalette.
Machalette picked up the win on the mound, raisning her record to 13-4 on the year.
Both teams went scoreless for six-plus innings before Immaculata took advantage of an error in the walk-off win. After a lead-off double, IU would put runners on the corners with two outs. A grounder to short was misplayed allowing the winning run to scamper home.
Alyssa Morales was the tough-luck loser, scattering seven hits with one unearned run. Gwynedd was limited to three hits from IU's Jessica Bormann.
Behr had two of the three hits, going 2-for-3. In the fourth, she would reach on a one-out single but would get doubled off on a liner to short.
Wednesday's first-round winners will move on to the double elimination tournament at Neumann starting on Friday morning.
