Men's Soccer Suffers Tough OT Loss At Stevenson

OWINGS MILLS, MD. -- Gwynedd Mercy lost a 3-2 overtime decision at Stevenson on Sunday.

Senior Rich Mychack (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) and junior Danny Saba (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) netted goals for Gwynedd, but it was the Mustangs who scored with less than a minute in regulation to tie the contest, minutes after the Griffins thought they had the go-ahead tally. Junior Danny Saba (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) fired one at the top of the box past Stevenson keeper Michael Tringali at the 86:58 mark of the second to give GM their second lead of the day.

Senior Rich Mychack (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) made it 1-0 in the 20th minute as his heads-up play in fighting off a clear from Tringali to get the ball in the net for a lead. The Griffins (1-2) nearly doubled their lead ten minutes later on a cross into the box, but an apparent goal from Neil McGarry (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) was negated due to offsides.

Gwynedd hung tough, despite being outshot, 23-5, in regulation and 14-2 in the overtime periods. Senior goalie Matt Chilcote (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) kept his team in the contest, tying a career high with 10 saves. Tringali made three for Stevenson (1-2).

The Griffins will head back home and regroup where they'll await Bryn Athyn on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
