BOX SCORE

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy dropped an 8-4 decision Friday afternoon to Neumann University in Colonial States Athletic Conference action.

Holding a 4-2 lead in the top of the sixth inning the Knights plated four runs on four hits to take a 6-4 lead over the home team.  Neumann was able to add two insurance runs in the eighth.

The Griffins were only to get two baserunners on over the final six innings as the duo of Zach Youngberg and Tyler Thomas allowed just one hit after the third.

Neumann took an early 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI single from Kyle Leone. Gwynedd answered in the home half of the frame when Brandon DiCiano (Sicklerville, N.J. / Washington Twp.) singled with two outs to score Chris Hens (Horsham, Pa. / Hatboro-Horsham) and Shaughn Wright (Fairless Hills, Pa. / Pennsbury).

The Knights would tie the game 2-2 in the third when Matt Sheneman scored after he led the inning with a leadoff double. The Griffins would respond again answering in the bottom of the third when Wright hit a sac fly to score Brett Kozlowski (Warminster, Pa. / William Tennent). Later, with two outs, Austin Heimbach (Boyertown, Pa. / Boyertown) doubled home Rick Elfreth (Sicklerville, N.J. / St. Augustine) for a 4-2 lead, but Neumann would be able to get out of the jam when they threw out the trail runner at the plate to end the inning.

Neumann would capitalize on a one-out error in the sixth as the Knights would record three hits in a row, two of them for doubles. The big blow of the inning came from AJ Koscelansky who plated the go ahead runs with his two-out two-run single.

The Griffins were unable to adjust to the Neumann bullpen that held them scoreless for six innings.

The teams meet tomorrow for a doubleheader in Aston.  First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
