Women's Hoops Wins Third-Straight Game

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Women's Basketball team (6-1, 2-0 CSAC) notched their third consecutive win on Saturday afternoon after beating the Cyclones of Centenary College,71-46, in Colonial States Athletic Conference action.

Gwynedd had two players finish with double digits as a definitive fourth quarter helped the team advance to 2-0 in conference play.  Sophomore Julianna Hoisington led the way for GM with 15 points off the bench, going 3-for-4 from behind the arc. Charlotte Kucowski would record her fourth double-double of the season as the junior dropped 13 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.  Sophomore Alison Szyszko and junior Nicole Dombrowski each added nine, with Dombrowski also grabbing eight rebounds and a adding a career-high seven steals.

Controlling the pace of the game for the first two quarters, the Griffins slowly built a double-digit lead heading into the break. GMercyU would only shoot 31% (10-for-32) in the first 20 minutes, but it was the Cyclones who had just three first-half field goals. Leading 26-15 at the half, Dombrowski and Hoisington would both chip in eight points helping to keep GM ahead by double-digits.

The lead would grow by as many as 17 in the third and 25 in the fourth, with the Griffins holding a double-digit lead for the entire final quarter. The Griffins only gave up three turnovers in the second half compared to the Cyclones 13.

Gwynedd would finish on a 22-for-60 (36.7%) shooting clip from the field compared to the Cyclones' 13-for-66 (19.7%) effort. GMercyU also had a clear advantage from behind the arc, hitting on 8-of-22 attempts (36.4%) over Centenary's 3-of-19 (15.8%) performance.  Kucowski, who also hit three treys in the contest, would score eight of her 13 points in the last quarter of play.

Leading the way for the Cyclones with a double-double was Mallory George with 12 points and 13 rebounds.  Amber Reisenwitz added seven and Melissa Rabe chipped in six along with nine rebounds  in the loss for the Cyclones (3-4, 0-2 CSAC)

The Griffins are back in action on Wednesday when they take a break from conference play and welcome Juniata College to the Griffin Complex.  Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
