Griffins Fall At Cabrini In CSAC Title Game

2015 CSAC Women's Soccer Championship

RADNOR, PA. -- A late goal was the difference as the second-seeded Gwynedd Mercy University Women's Soccer team fell in a tough 1-0 decision to top-seeded Cabrini College in the 2015 Colonial State Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday afternoon.

It was Gwynedd's fourth appearance in the title game with the last coming in 2012. With the win, the Cavaliers capture the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Kaitlyn Cooper of Cabrini was named the Championship MVP as she netted the lone goal coming in the 80th minute to break a scoreless chess match.

Deadlocked in the first, both the Griffins and the Cavilers were unable to find the back of the net for a successful offensive tally.  At the break, the Cavs had a slight advantage outshooting the Griffins, 6-1, and leading in corner kicks, 2-0.

Tensions ran high in the second half as both teams pushed the tempo offensively to get on the board.  Cooper would eventually win it as she slipped a far right side shot off the post past Jess Tadley Despite a strong team effort late in the contest, including two corner kicks, the Griffins were unable to find the equalizer.

Tadley made five saves in goal for the Griffins in the season-ending loss.  Cabrini's Alivia Dietsch made two stops.

The marked the final time on the pitch for the team's six seniors: Tadley, Megan Gifford, Kerri Petroski, Allison Bigos, Ashley Ustica, and Diamond Devereaux. The group has 37 wins in their careers and two championship game appearances in their pockets.
