COMPLETE RESULTSCOLLEGEVILLE, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy Track & Field Teams were in action at the Collegeville Classic hosted by Ursinus College on Friday looking strong in their performances.
The women's team finished 11th of 24 teams which featured several Division I and II squads.
Zakiyyah Richardson (Morrisville, Pa./Pennsbury) finished 3rd in the 60 meter dash, clocking in at time of 8.02. She would return to the track to take fourth in the 200 meters (26.66).
Cierra Adkins (Philadelphia, Pa./Hallahan) finished 26th in the same event 27.84).
The women's 4x800 relay team of
Christina Smith (Springfield, Pa./Springfield),
Anna Benecke (Sellersville, Pa./Lansdale Catholic),
Brittany Finn (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Moreland), and
Emily Makara (Holland, Pa./Council Rock North) was second, in a time of 10:34.73.
In the women's 4x400, the team of
Kaitlin Iffrig (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury),
Christine Homont (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert), Richardson, and Adkins clocked in at 4:26.02 to finish seventh.
Coach
Kevin Clark liked what he saw at the meet. "A lot of the ladies are battling injuries and are banged up. They all battled through and toughed it out; we love seeing that toughness. Zakiyyah and Cierra had a busy day running the 60, 200 and 4x400. They both ran real well in the 4x400 to finish their busy day."
On the men's side, the team finished 12th out of 24 teams.
Bobbie Stone (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic) finished 6th in the 60 meter dash in a time of 7.26.
Kylil Curry (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) continues to run well, finishing 13th (7.31).
Raymond Harris (Springfield, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) ran his first 60 meter of the season , taking 14th overall.
Ben Keliojor (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) had a personal record in the event with a time of 7.37.
Chase Toliver (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) was second in the60 meter hurdles (8.49) placing just behind the defending national champion from Salisbury (Luke Campbell). Toliver also placed seventh in the 200 meter dash.
Matt Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) finished 25th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:05.60.
In the long jump,
Byron Coleman (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) was third, setting a personal best with a 6.58 meter (21'7.25")effort.
Clark adds, "The men's sprint team continues to show its depth and talent with four guys in the top 20 in a big field of the 60 meter dash. It was great to see Chase battle the defending national champion in the 60 meter hurdles, keeping pace throughout the first and second hurdles. Byron continues to work extremely hard every day and he continues to jump very well. We are extremely excited to see how he progresses."
The teams resume action on Friday when they head to Lewisburg, Pa. to take part in the Bison Invitational hosted by Bucknell University.
